I'm a film student at a junior college in Orange County, CA. Anyways, it is my job on my current project to do the post work. Normally this would be fine, but I am working with a Panasonic AG-DVX100b, a camera I have never worked with before...
My first issue came into play once I had finished logging all my clips in Final Cut Pro... It kept telling me the tape is not threaded... I am a film STUDENT I didn't know what that meant... google here I come. So after finding out that a tape that is not threaded is a tape the camera is not loading correctly... I was looking to find out why. Again google here I come... but this time google failed me!!! No answers to my question! But there was a button on the camera labeled VCR so i was trying to see if putting the camera in that mode would allow this to work... but I couldn't figure out how. So google here I come... this time google worked and brought me to the Panasonic site for the user manual, but the manual was no where to be found!!!! So I plugged back into the search engine hive mind and went looking again. This time I found it.. the user manual for the camera I have been using.
And the answer to my question... HOW THE HELL DO I CAPTURE THIS FOOTAGE?!?!?!?! was answered... push an unlabeled button on the back of the camera next to 2 lights... on labeled camera, one labeled VCR... voila it all works.
Now if only the camera had come with a manual in the first place the better part of a Saturday would not have been wasted searching the deepest depths of the Internet and the archives of video forums and educational resources everywhere.
